BIOGRAPHY

Alessandro Giaquinto was born in Scandiano (Italy) and grew up in Reggio Emilia. After starting his dance education at the private school Progetto Danza in Reggio Emilia, he moved to the John Cranko School in Stuttgart (Germany) which he gruaduated from in 2016.

As of the beginning of the season 2016/17 he joined The Stuttgart Ballet, where five years later he was promoted to demi-soloist. Besides dancing the classical repertoire which includes works by JohnCranko, Kenneth MacMillan and George Balanchine, Giaquinto worked with world renowned choreographers such as William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Akram Kahn, John Neuemeier and creators such as Marco Goecke, Johan Inger, Edward Clug, Mauro Bigonzetti, Christian Spuck and Douglas Lee created new roles for him.

His very own choreographic journey started in 2017 with Elegia, created for The Stuttgart Ballet’s evening Noverre: Junge Choreografen. After creating two more works for the same evening in the following years, Giaquinto was commissioned several works from The Stuttgart Ballet, the Literaturarchiv Marbach, Jacob Jonas The Company and renowned italian Festivals.
Giaquinto’s choreographic production, however, was not limited to works for the theater stage, on the contrary, thanks to fortunate collaborations with film directors and above all with the visual artist Chiara Bugatti he had the opportunity to take dance outside the pre-established patterns of theater and make it participate in a discourse that uses space as a starting point and reference for the creative process and the performance itself.
His detail-driven artistic language is focused on portraying “the individual and the collective in their entangled yet conflicted relationship (Linnea Bake)”. Themes such as spirituality, collectivity, affection, violence and death are constant to his artistic practice which uses precise theatrical images and complex phrasing to find a fine line between dramatic tension and heart-warming release.

As an author, Giaquinto has written Articles for TANZ magazine and the online magazine THE THOUGHT. Edizioni Dialoghi has published his novel “La forza di chi non è solo” (2021) and the poems collection “Distillato d’abbandono” (2024)
